Sabine, TX, Firefighter Responds to Blaze that Destroyed His Home

Dec. 19, 2024
Sabine firefighter Nicholas Loftin received a call from his pregnant wife that their home was on fire.

Efforts are underway to collect money for a Sabine firefighter who lost his home to a fire over the weekend.

Nicholas Loftin was at Gregg County ESD 2’s Sabine Fire and Rescue station Sunday when his pregnany wife called, telling him their house was on fire.

Loftin got behind the wheel of the pumper and responded to the home, he told KLTV.com.

They worked with Smith County firefighters but were unable to save the home.

"As the Sabine engine crew began fire suppression Nick’s pregnant wife and his little boy watched their hero and his fellow firefighters make an aggressive fire attack," Sabine Fire and Rescue posted on Facebook. "Even with a quick knock down of the fire the loss was already done. Within minutes Nick and his family lost their home and pretty much everything in it. What was not burnt was damaged by high heat and smoke. The home will be deemed a total loss.

“It’s unfortunate, and it stinks, but all that matters is that they were ok,” Loftin told the television station. “All that stuff is just stuff so that’s all that matters is that they are ok.”

An Amazon Wish List was established to help the family recover, and Sabine Fire and Rescue is collecting money for the family.
